Official blog for Ride with GPS
Improvements almost here!
August 15th, 2009
As some of you are aware, we have been hard at work on a large number of improvements to the site. We have brought a good friend of ours on board, Cameron Gaut, and he has crafted up a great new look and feel to the site. We're in the process of wrapping up these changes now, and we are almost there.
Expect the new version of this site to come online in the next couple of days. Once it is live, please send us your feedback through the Ideas? link at the top of the page. We'd love to hear your thoughts on the improvements.

Looks like it’s been a month – oh well, we all know about schedules.
After briefly trying this sit for mapping, I have these problems with it:
1. It is essential to be able to create custom cue sheet notes – including at places where there aren’t any turns. And to be able to add them after the fact.
2. I don’t see a good way to edit the route. (I like Google Maps’ method of allowing me to just grab the route and pull it onto another road. But for bikes we need better than that, as we have to be able to make it go offroad (I can see how to do this when initially creating the route).
3. Mileage markers on the map would be nice.

I admit, I like the feel of this program much more than mapmyride. But I’ll also admit—when, or will, you be able to offer an iphone app that will track my route so I don’t have to do it manually later? Thanks.

Jeff: We are going to start work on mobile phone applications once we release a few more features. Our first priority is smoothing out the route planner and adding the premium features we have been talking about/working on. After that, we will start penning out/developing some mobile phone apps.
Tony: Yeah we are pretty bad at keeping these timeframes it seems. This shouldn’t be a problem when we can quit our other financial responsibilities and work on this site 100% ! Gotta get our premium payed accounts out the door soon to accomplish this. You can create custom cue sheet notes, however the UI is limited to where you can place those custom points. This is being alleviated, it’s just a tricky problem to solve correctly. It should be up within a week. Editing maps by clicking/dragging will also be added, probably a bit more down the road than one week. It is a priority planner feature, however! Additionally, mileage markers have been discussed and are on the todo list.
Thanks for pointing things out, we hope to get these issues resolved within the month!

Jeff – I’m using MotionX GPS iPhone software and it works really really well, in fact it noticed when I made a small hesitation at the start of my ride. I zoom in and it shows me deviating from the path…anyways I’m excited to see what they can do on the web site. There is definitely a need for this. Mapmyride may have software for iPhone, but it is not as good as MotionX GPS – why not leave the GPS to the guys who specialize in it? Let’s get some awesome statistics, tracking, forums here first et cetera. BTW I’m just a user.
